About the Smith
For as long as I can remember I've had a love of using my hands to bring the pictures in my head to life. Whether it was painting watercolours with my nan of my favourite steam trains, or building, painting, and playing with Warhammer miniatures. As a child I loved to express myself through creative mediums.
Alas, the mercurial nature of teenage years and ill-health in my early twenties put paid to a lot of my creative outlets. I knew there was something missing, and with the unfaltering support of my family, over time I began to recover. To eventually rediscover my forgotten passions and move forward into a brighter era.
It was around this time I was offered a job in a local Goldsmith's workshop in Weymouth. Master Smith Daniel Moran, owner of Good as Gold jewellers, offered me a job working at the bench doing simple repairs and resizes. Over the next two years I learnt a wealth of techniques and honed my skills under his watchful gaze. I learnt so much of the trade from him, and will be eternally grateful for the opportunity he gave to that formerly directionless young man.
Sadly all good things must come to an end, and in lieu of the cost of living crisis and skyrocketing inflation, I was made redundant in the Autumn of 2023. Not one to rest on my laurels I spent the next few months kitting out a workshop and drumming up as much business as possible (a fair bit of which came through the generosity of my family & friends).
Fast forward to July 2024 and I have a fully kitted out workshop and have expanded the business, as well as my own skillset, in so many ways. The future looks bright and I can't wait to see what happens next.
